What is athletics?
Athletics is the basic fundamentals of all sport and movement, athletics incorporates running, throwing and jumping.
Athletics is primarily an individual sport, and the basis of improvement is on personal bests (PB’s). You don’t need to be an elite athlete to compete as our focus is on improving on you last result, refining techniques and training.
What is Little Athletics?
Little Athletics at Mt Barker & Districts Little Athletics Centre encourages children aged from 3 years to Under 17 years regardless of their ability to strive to achieve their best in the full range of athletics events. The emphasis is on fun, fitness, and improvement, not winning. All events use equipment specifically designed to be appropriate to the size and ability of the child. It is safe, fun and develops all around fitness.
Children compete in groups determined by their age at 31st December. Registration period is from 1st October to 30th September the following year and includes the Summer Track and Field and a Winter Cross Country and Race Walking season.

Mt Barker & Districts provides the following events:
Running: 50m, 70m, 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 700m(U8 only), 800m, 1500m
Hurdles: 60m, 80m, 90m, 100m, 200m*
Race Walking: 700m, 1100m, 1500m
Throwing: Shot Put, Discus, Javelin
Jumping: Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump
